NC Medicaid
Long Term Services 

Outcome:
  • Redesigned a required form to use plain language and improve the application experience. 
  • Launched an outreach program over a 6-month timeframe.
  • Completed sophisticated data analysis of Medicaid beneficiary data to evaluate underserved regions.

  • Conducted interviews with family members of beneficiaries to ensure a smooth transition to a new case management entity.

  • Redesigned the Community Alternatives Program application form to ensure an appropriate reading level and improve the instructions for families and physicians.

  • Developed a project plan to conduct physician training educating providers on how to complete program referrals. Utilized exceptional project management skills to successfully launch the new initiative in 6 months. 

U.S. DHHS
Assistant Secretary for Financial Resources

Outcome:
  • Successfully advocated for millions of federal investment in life-saving public health programs, including expansion of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
  • Provided strategic budget and policy analysis for large-scale federal public health programs.

  • As the SAMHSA budget liaison, managed budget policy recommendations for $10+ billion.

  • Served as a key advisor on behavioral health to senior leadership on funding decisions, cross-agency priorities, and policy development.

  • Led analytical work to develop budgetary needs for the national expansion of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

  • Successfully informed FY 2023 congressional negotiations, resulting in significant, sustained increases in federal investment. 

Advancing Equity in Federal Leadership Pipelines

Outcome:
  • Successfully advocated for equity reform reforms that improved equity and  transparency in the Presidential Management Fellowship program.
  • Lead a group of Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) and alumni advocating for racial equity reforms.

  • Facilitated strategy discussions and collaboration between fellows.

  • Utilized grit, determination, and creative problem solving to successfully advocate for changes in fellowship recruitment, application review, and training design to reduce racial disparities and improve program outcomes.

NC Department of Public Health
Injury & Violence Prevention

Outcomes:
  • Designed an innovative, first-of-its-kind alcohol public health data dashboard
  • Work supported successful application for CDC grant for a full-time alcohol epidemiologist. 
  • Applied data analytics and user-centered design to support statewide injury and substance use prevention efforts.

  • Designed a public data dashboard, which was the first alcohol data data dashboard in the United States. 

  • Streamlined mortality data processing.

  • Contributed to a Syringe Exchange Program Toolkit to guide local harm reduction program implementation. 

Streetsense - Research + Analysis Studio

Outcomes:
  • Supported local governments and private clients in evaluating economic development policy options.
  • Supported data-driven investment in communities. 
  • Served as a senior analyst within the Research & Analysis studio at the renowned firm Streetsense, based in Washington, DC.

  • Delivered data-driven research and strategy support to public-sector and nonprofit clients focused on food access, retail development, and neighborhood investment.

  • Conducted market analysis, field research, and stakeholder engagement in communities across the U.S.

  • Spearheaded using local history research to inform economic analyses and solutions design.

  • Utilized exceptional personal relations skills to build trust with and recruit Detroit residents from 12 historic neighborhoods to participate in Streetsense's workshop.

UVA Peer Health Education

Outcome:
  • Designed a durable, cross-departmental training program.
  • Improved coordination and consistency in student mental health peer support
  • Served as an intern with the prestigious UVA Peer Health Education program.

  • Led a new initiative to improve how the program served students with mental health concerns.

  • Collaborated with clinical partners to design a new mental health training protocol.

  • The new program, which has been in place since 2015, strengthened coordination across student health units and improved consistency in peer-delivered support services.
